A journal of criticism

The Nigeria Review is a journal of the Hill-Top Creative Arts Foundation in Niger State. It publishes criticism of Nigerian books and books from elsewhere, alongside writing on music, film, performance and visual art.

A review can attend to a book’s style, argument and place in a literary conversation. Essays give writers room to follow a question at greater length. Both begin with the work itself and the choices that shape it.

Books and the arts

The journal began with books. Its pages also consider how music, film, performance and visual art are made and received, each in its own terms.

Niger State is the journal’s home. Nigerian writing and art are made across the country, and criticism has much to gain by attending to that breadth.

Readers can begin with a review or essay and follow the questions it raises.

Writers can find the current reading-period status on the submissions page.
